Per capita alcohol consumption more than doubled in India from 2005 to 2016

In India, the consumption of alcohol has increased from 2.4 litres in 2005 to 5.7 litres in 2016 with 4.2 litres being consumed by men and 1.5 litres by women, a WHO report said. The harmful use of alcohol is a causal factor in more than 200 diseases and injury conditions, the report stated.
